TAG Racing IRL to British Superstock 1000 for 2017
TAG Racing IRL set out ambitious plans for 2017
In line with a full international Road Racing Program including the Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix and Northwest 200, TAG Racing have also laid down plans to compete with a two rider team in the Pirelli British Superstock Championship in 2017. Competing on two brand new state of the art Honda CBR 1000rr’s in the BSB Superstock 1000 championship, and the International roads campaign, 2017 is set to be TAG Racing’s biggest year to date.
Having already secured current team rider and multiple Irish Champion Brian McCormack for the upcoming campaign, team manager Jim Halligan now embraces the challenge of getting the right person in the saddle for the second ride. This will be a return to British Superbikes for both TAG who ran Supersport elitist Jack Kennedy onboard a CBR 600rr in 2006 and 2007, and Brian who competed in the Championship as recently as 2014.
Its an exciting return to BSB with a very competitive package for the team, who will take delivery of the heavily anticipated 2017 Honda CBR 1000rr which promises to be at the sharp end of the ultra competitive Superstock 1000 grid, however, 33 year old Tramore Native McCormack is conscious of the challenge at hand;
“I’m really feeling privileged and excited to be getting opportunity to go back to BSB paddock in Superstock next year with TAG racing on the new Honda, a lot of people cited the older bike as being dated but the Honda has always been competitive and ultra reliable for me so I am happy to remain seated with the same manufacturer, but also very exited to get some laps on the new bike which looks amazing on paper!â€
He added “This is a big deal for me, so ill be giving it 100% to make the most of it. TAG are giving me a great chance with new bikes for international roads too but I’m under no illusion of the task at hand how much I have to up my fitness preparation and ridingâ€
Team Manager Jim Halligan also added; “The team are very excited and looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead! We are delighted to be Part of the Honda new Fireblade Program which promises to be an exciting challenge! We are all aware of the task at hand but our aim is high and I think we will surprise quite a few people!â€
The team will be taking the winter break to prepare both Honda CBR 1000rr’s And hope to get some pre season testing laps on board the new bikes in February. Brian McCormack will also compete in the Isle of Man TT, Ulster Grand Prix, North West 200 and the remainder of the Irish Road Race Championship on board the Honda Machinery, with the second bike being fielded for both British Superstock 1000 Championship and the three International Road Race events.
